Little Yowler

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend!

I had a great time “out on the town” with my best friend, Laura. Granted “out on the town” consisted of walking across the street to the VFW for a holiday vendor show, but hey – they had a build-your-own bloody mary bar! It was fun to put on pants, comb my hair, and get out of the house for a couple of hours.

Last week, there was a follow-up article about Jaxson in our local newspaper! He’s famous! (In case you missed the initial article, here it is…)

We have good news from last week’s eye appointment! Jaxson’s ROP is still Stage 1, Zone 2, with no PLUS disease! This is great – the disease has not changed! However, his eyes are still not completely vascularized yet. This means that his eyes are still not totally developed. (This is a known side-effect from the Avastin drug.) This will just take time. Jax can see like a newborn could see – about 12 – 18 inches away. He’s started tracking objects and looking at our faces so that’s good.

Doc said that by 12 weeks post due date, we should know if Jax needs laser surgery or not. Jax is 2 weeks post due-date now, so only a couple more months of pins-and-needles at the eye doctor! Even if Jax does not end up needing the surgery, he will still get regular eye exams to make sure that everything is growing and developing properly. We don’t have to go back until Dec 20!

It’s a quiet week here for us…only one appointment! Tomorrow we head to the pediatrician for Jaxson’s 4 month check up and vaccinations. (I know vaccinations are a touchy subject. We chose to get Jax vaccinated because of his precarious immune system – it was the right choice for him!) Poor baby has to get 5 different shots. 😦 It will not be a fun day. Lots of snuggling will be in order! (Probably more for me than for Jax!)

Don’t let this peaceful sleeping shot fool you, the kid roars like the dinosaur on his shirt! So, I’ve gotten to calling him “Yowler.” I’m glad that he’s found his “voice.” Houston, the honeymoon is over…

Oh man, what an adventure! I went into labor unexpectedly when I was 23w3d pregnant. Jaxson was born weighing 1 lb 8 oz. A tiny little peanut, but boy was he feisty. He still is! We love it now, but we probably won't when he is a teenager. I write about our journey and all other things that come with it, including a brain tumor. We look forward to "meeting" you - come hang out with us...we're pretty cool.

  1. I love your posts and I adore seeing pictures of Jax. What does he weigh now? What an absolute cutie. Take care (as we all know you do) and know that you all are loved.

    1. Thanks! We’ll get an “official” weight check today at the doc’s, but as of Friday, he weighed in at a whopping 9lbs 5ozs! My guess is that he’s 9lbs 12ozs today! What do you think?
