The Tampa Bay Times is running a three-part special about the birth of a baby at 23 weeks 6 days gestation. (Jaxson was born at 23 weeks 3 days.) It’s wonderfully written and many of the things the author says really resonate with me. If I was a good writer, I would have written a story like this one…

I realized as I was putting Jax to bed last night, that it was the first night in 138 days that he has had nothing attached to him. No IVs, or wires, or monitors, or tubes. Last night, when Jax went to bed, I cried (happy tears!) for how far he has come. Looking at the statistics (in the graphic below), I’m still not sure how we got so lucky. Not a day, minute, or second goes by that I don’t thank {God, angels, the universe} for bringing Jax to us, and for keeping him with us.
“The statistics don’t matter,” [the doctor] said, “until they happen to you.”
