Tonight, is date night!
Steve and I are maybe a little bit more excited than Jax about this…
Grandma Jan has been coming over once a week to spend time with Jax. We are so thankful for our family! Jax loves his “dates” with Grandma – they read stories and talk to each other and snuggle. They have a blast together! It’s basically Jax’s favorite day of the week because he gets to talk to someone other than mom and dad!
Since Jax is taken tonight, that means Steve and I get our own date night, too! Tonight, we will go pick up my finished pottery. Over the last 10 years, I’ve been doing pottery as my “zen time.” I love the feel of the clay and the zone of the wheel; I love creating useful art with my own two hands. It’s been a hobby that has and will always be something I love doing.
When I was pregnant with Jax, I had these grand plans to make a bunch of pottery with dents that looked like they came from my huge belly. I would call it my “baby bump collection.” Well, that obviously didn’t happen, since I barely grew a belly anyway. After a year hiatus from the wheel, I was able to get back into the studio this winter. It was one of the best sessions ever! I can’t wait to see the finished product – it’s like Christmas for me today! I’ll post some pictures tomorrow, if you want to see them.
After we pick up my creations, we’re going out for dinner at Teresa’s. Finally, we have a decent Mexican restaurant in town and we can’t get enough! (Good Mexican food is something I really miss from my time in San Diego.)
So, tonight will be a great night with “dates” all around! Good thing, too, because tomorrow Jax is getting the other half of his 6 month vaccinations and that’s no fun.

dang I had no idea you were into pottery.. me too, enjoy the glazing, firing etc but it has been years.. next time I come back to MN let’s play w/ clay!

Steve says “There ain’t no time for that shit. We play guitar and guitar only.” 🙂 But I say, cool! I didn’t know you were a potter, too. Let’s talk clay! Are you coming to MN this summer?

LOL Steve, maybe we can model up a guitar w/ clay and then write a song about it?!? MN this summer is not likely (heading to Seattle for Reichow’s wedding) but Xmas 2013 is a near certainty 🙂

Yes – a life sized clay guitar! 🙂 We will miss you this summer, but Xmas will just have to do. You should give up skiing in Utah for nights at EI… 😉

Date night sounds wonderful for all 4 of you! My husband has been begging for mexican that doesnt come from a drive thru, might have to check it out when life settles down around here. Im glad you have a craft to help you decompress. Im sure as you adjust to being home full time you will come to enjoy your “me” time even more. I look forward to seeing pictures. Jax just keeps getting cuter everytime I see a new picture, he has such personality and looks soooooo happy!!! Happy kids are the best, healthy is also a bonus. Good luck with the shots tomorrow:)

We were amazed at how good Teresa’s was – I wasn’t expecting it. We highly recommend it! Jax definitely has a personality – we love it now, but when he’s a toddler (and teenager), we might not like it as much! 😉 How is your mom doing?
