We finally got to spend the entire weekend outside! The sun was shining and the breeze was refreshing – spring is finally here! (Until tomorrow, when we’re supposed to get more snow. No comment.) Jax loved, loved, loved the fresh air – we played outside in his stroller and on a blanket in the shade.
And guess what?!?! He rolled over from his tummy to his back for the first time all by himself!! He hasn’t done it since, so maybe it was a fluke, but we have confidence in him! (I think he just wanted to look at the pretty trees…) Don’t worry, we have the video camera on perma-ready, so hopefully sometime soon, we’ll be able to share a video of this huge milestone with you!

Jax likes to party. (But you knew that already!) This weekend, he went to his first fair! He loved the polka music and all the people.

We also discovered a pair of ducks living in our yard. Jax loves to watch them waddle around. They are getting a little brave, though, because I turned around for one second and all of a sudden, they were right next to Jax’s stroller waiting to see if he’d give them food!

On Saturday morning, I completed training to become a volunteer for Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota! I’ll be working primarily as a Family Advisor for the St Paul NICU. I’ll get to work with other parents, nurses, and the Care Manager to help make the NICU experience as comfortable as possible for parents with sick babies. I’ll get to work on committees to help plan future Baby Steps 3K Walks and other events and also share our story at different panel presentations, events, and workshops. I’m honored to have the opportunity to give back and can’t wait to get started! I’ll keep you posted…
I’ll have some more news for you about Jax’s upcoming Occupational and Physical Therapy plans later this week. He has another evaluation on Thursday, so we’ll know more then. Have a great week!
How wonderful to be able to give back and help make the experience of the NICU better for families! I love the pictures of Jax, he’s getting big, 🙂

This journey has definitely given you experience and a wonderful experience at that…..after all the scary dust settled with Baby Jax’s health. No one better than a parent who has been in the trenches to help another parent. You rock, Andrea and so does Steve and definitely Baby Jax.

Thanks, Kathy. I’m hoping that by telling our story, we can help give other families some extra hope when they need it. It will also be great to be able to work with the nurses and staff to help make the experience more comfortable. I’m really looking forward to it!

That’s so awesome about the volunteering opportunity at Children’s! I was hoping to be able to make it to the Baby Steps 3K walk with you, but my High School Girls Cabin Weekend has been scheduled for that weekend. Glad you were able to get out more finally! It has been wonderful to get out of the house and be out in the sunshine!

Your reunion sounds like a blast – I think it’s great that you keep in touch with your high school friends. But we’ll miss you at the walk! We literally spent every waking moment outside when the sun was shining – I guess we knew we had to store it all up for this next blast of cold air and snow.

Our duck doesn’t waddle around just sits on her nest and stares at us pretty cool yours are so friendly. Awesome that he rolled over, Isabella was the same way as was Christian, they role over once then don’t do it for a week do you start thinking maybe it was just a fluke then the next thing you know he’s rolling across the room. I have confidence that jax will be rolling to get into stuff soon. Can’t wait tho have a play date soon when all runny noises are better at our house.

We realize now that it’s kinda nice when we put him in a spot and he stays there! But, it will be fun chasing him all over. (At least, that’s what I’m telling myself! 😉 )Hopefully he gets the hang of it soon. A play date will be fun – just let us know when the kids are healthy and we’ll plan something.
