Jax is in the hospital because of pneumonia again.
He started coming down with a cold on Sunday but he had a blast running around with his cousins at the Easter parties. Since late Sunday night he has been struggling to keep his oxygen level high enough while he sleeps. After two trips to the pediatrician and following our Asthma Action Plan into the Red Zone, we decided to bring Jax to the emergency room on Friday morning.
I’m glad we did – his cold had turned into pneumonia.
Here’s the kicker – this time he’s totally fine during the day! He’s playing, laughing, singing, and basically bouncing off the walls being cooped up in this little hospital room. (Speaking of, we’d love visitors!)
But, as soon as he falls asleep, his oxygen level plummets. He was on oxygen support all last night.
He had a great day today so we were very hopeful that he would not need any extra support tonight. Unfortunately, he is back on oxygen again already. 😦
They will try to wean him overnight so there is a small possibility we might go home tomorrow, but it’s looking like we’ll be here through Monday. Grr.
I’m just trying to take it one day at a time and rest when I can. (If anyone is looking for the most uncomfortable bed in the world, I think I found one here you can have.) I got 10,000 steps on my Fitbit today – and I only left the hospital room once. Jax is a busy little dude, which means I am busy, too! At least I get hugs and smiles from him this time and that’s making things a little better.
I’m keeping hope that we get to go home tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed for us, will you?
here’s hoping jax is home in his own bed very soon and on the mend ) beth

Oh man. I’m glad to hear that you are hopefully discharging today. Do you still have a pulse ox on him at home? Just curious because you were aware of his O2 levels while sleeping. Perhaps you mentioned that in earlier posts. I’ve been out of the loop for awhile. Crazy busy but I always love reading when I can and am wishing a swift and full recovery from this last illness. Poor guy. That’s great that he remains energetic and relatively content during the day. As my Dad once said about Luca while we were in the NICU: “man his life force is strong”. Jax has that warrior spirit all the way. Doesn’t make it fair or right that he has to endure so much but it does mean he will only be stronger for it in the end.
