Things About Four

Dear Jaxson,

Today is your birthday! I can’t believe you’re four years old.

You’re so tall now. When I pick you up, your feet hang past my knees. I remember when you fit into the palms of my hands. Doctors told us you’d probably always be small.

You’re in the 98th percentile for height and the 89th percentile for weight. You’ve grown so much!

You’re an active little boy. Running and playing “chase” are your favorite things to do. You’d climb and jump all day long if you could. I remember when doctors told us that you might not walk. I remember when you got fitted for your AFO ankle brace. I remember when you were a little late meeting your physical milestones and doctors were worried that you might have cerebral palsy.

You’re so fast now that I can barely keep up with you. Your body is so strong.

You’re learning so much at school and at daycare. You say things like “I’d really like to stay and play, but I have to go home now.” And “Wow, mom. This is facinating!” We have serious conversations about which construction vehicle is the coolest. You pick the “excabator” everytime. I remember when doctors told us you might not be able to talk.

Your vocabulary is growing everyday and you’re learning how to process two-step directions. You’re expressing your self!

You’re curious about the world around you and you notice things that most people don’t notice. Your smile lights up a room. You’re kind and empathetic and love meeting new friends. You’ll walk up to kids on the playground and ask “Do you want to play with me?” When the answer is no, you get sad but you move on. You’re confident.

You’re four years old today, Little Buck. It’s an honor to be able to help you learn and grow.

Happy birthday, my Little Love. I’m so grateful to be your mom. ❤

Oh man, what an adventure! I went into labor unexpectedly when I was 23w3d pregnant. Jaxson was born weighing 1 lb 8 oz. A tiny little peanut, but boy was he feisty. He still is! We love it now, but we probably won't when he is a teenager. I write about our journey and all other things that come with it, including a brain tumor. We look forward to "meeting" you - come hang out with us...we're pretty cool.

Please be sure to take the time for you and Steve to take a bow today. He is learning from you. What a great day to celebrate. HAPPIEST OF BIRTHDAYS, JAX. The world is yours.💗🎂😍
