Jax the Punk Rocker Getting Ready Surgery Tomorrow

Happy Halloween!

Last year, Jax had been home from the hospital for 4 days, so we celebrated Halloween together on our couch with our little scary skeleton.

This year, our little punk rocker is looking forward to doing some trick-or-treating with his cousins. (Preemie-style with hand sanitizer and no touching, of course!)

Take a look at this little “tough guy!” He’s a natural punk rocker! You guys picked a good costume for him.

It’s a good thing we’re having some fun tonight, because tomorrow Jax has yet another surgery. The surgeon will be repairing Jax’s hypospadias and doing some other reconstructive work. Hypospadias is where the urethra doesn’t end up in the right place. I do not recommend Googling this disorder – you will not like what you see…trust me on this one! But here is a good link for more info in case you are curious…

This surgery is making both Steve and I nervous, more so than the other surgeries. There are a couple of reasons why…

  1. It’s a long and complicated procedure. The surgeon is predicting it will take 3 to 4 hours. That’s a long time to sit, wait, and worry!
  2. Jax will be on the ventilator for the entire time. I think this is nerve-wracking because he worked so hard to get off the ventilator when he was a baby. We can’t help but be nervous he might have trouble getting off now (illogical, for sure!).
  3. Jax is going to feel this one afterwards! The surgeon is doing a lot of work and will be making many incisions. Jax will be on lots of pain meds, but still…it’s hard to think about your kiddo being in pain.
  4. It means one more stay overnight in the hospital. You all know how I feel about that!

So, will you please take a minute and send Jax some healing vibes tomorrow? And we’d really appreciate some positive thoughts for Steve and I, too…it will be a long day.

PS Tomorrow is the last day to vote for Jax in the Preemie Power contest! Go vote!
