Jax had an appointment at the eye doctor today. He sees the pediatric ophthalmologist regularly because of his history of ROP and his droopy eyelid and mismatched pupils.
Recently, we started noticing that Jax’s left eye drifts inward when he’s tired or concentrating on something up close. This can be a residual effect from the Avastin injections and the laser eye surgery he had when he was a baby.
Or it could be because of the tumor. Great.
The eye doctor wants to see Jax back in two months to monitor for any changes in the drifting eye.
In the meantime, we will have our second opinion appointment at Children’s. It’s on February 4 in St Paul. We are meeting with the director of the pediatric neuro-oncology department, Dr Anne Bendel and a pediatric neurosurgeon, Dr. Meysam A Kebriaei. I really like that we will be talking with both specialists at the same time! These guys are the real deal, people.
It really hit me today – what we are doing; what it could mean for Jax’s future. Oncology is a specialty I never wanted to add to our team! I’m glad we have the appointment on the calendar, but now it feels more real, you know? I guess there is nothing left for me to do but wait..and hope…and give my kid a huge hug.
